From the depths of the ocean I’ve traveled home Now I hardly know where I’m from The walls are all torn, ravaged by flames There’s nowhere to hide from the blinding shame From the rocks at the bottom I’ve risen here Although I’m nowhere close to the clear I’ve grit my teeth through the same old shit If I can’t go around it I’ll plow through it Burn it down Burn it down Burn it down, it’s my only way out Burn it down Burn it down Burn it down, there’s no other way out If I can’t go around it, I’ll go through This is the only way to get over you I’ll light you afire, dance on your ashes Feed you to the wolves, laugh at disaster I’ll watch you burn with your blood on my teeth And breathe the biggest sigh of relief I’ll bury you deep, your blood on my fist Be gone, motherfucker, rest in fucking piss Burn it down ... I’ll hang you in my dreams, you’ll be dead in my water I’ll kill you slowly and consume you at slaughter If I can’t go around it, then you I’ll go through Blood-bathed, smiling, in blood you first drew And if I can’t fight through I’ll go over instead Nail your skin to my face, wear your head as my head And with the part that you took, I’ll paint me a crown Feast on your flesh, burn you the fuck down Burn it down ...

Watched my life fall apart Built it back to the top Cut the rope that held me at the bottom of the sea It’s like drinking poison but expecting you to die I don’t believe you I have a reason to think you’re a liar But I killed the tree and I ate the seed Cracked through the core of my wooden teeth I’m in a tunnel My past is shrieking My gums are bloody My ears are ringing Everything I ever loved has been taken from me I don’t believe you I have a reason to think you’re a liar But I killed the tree and I ate the seed Cracked through the core of my wooden teeth The storm shattered me And maybe it shattered us both The storm shattered me And maybe it shattered us both The storm shattered me And maybe it shattered us both Goodbye, old friend It’s been great Goodbye, old friend It’s been great Goodbye, old friend It’s been great I know you’re gone I know you’re gone I know I’m not coming home …

Time's Up 02:51
We know your names, we know your faces We know your friends and your workplaces No more predators in our spaces! Time’s up! Time’s up, motherfuckers! Time’s up! It’s not on women to avoid The violence of rape culture It’s up to men to tell their friends That we deserve better than this No no, not our responsibility Allow me to explain how boys Are raised to think this shit’s OK They’re not allowed to show emotion Think their power’s in aggression Gagging women with your cocks You think that they are getting hot But it’s just jocks like Brock who are The only assholes getting off Time’s up ... There’s nothing normal in the way You treat us like we’re yours to take Virginity, humanity Something you’re made to dominate Not yours, it’s mine to do with as I please That’s how we got men in our scene Who violate our dignity And business owners with money To defend their atrocities Time’s up ...

Fauxminism 02:04
How do you explain why nobody ever wants to be around you But somehow they’re the ones who don’t understand like you do? Take a hard look in the mirror at your passive-aggressive behavior You pick and choose what’s convenient to believe in And criticize everyone who dares to think for themselves (How dare you think for yourself?) How can you ignore all the warriors who paved the way through bullshit So you could have a voice that you’re wasting on the internet? No, we didn’t invent feminism We’re just fighting for inclusion Do you really think you’ve got the edge on this? Your mind’s as closed as a Christian fundamentalist’s You pick and choose what’s convenient to believe in And criticize everyone who dares to think for themselves (How dare you think for yourself?) Who the fuck are you to call shots on behalf of survivors When you don’t even know or could bear the weight that I do? Take a long look in the mirror You’re complicit in this behavior I’m not a pawn in your militant politics I’m not a step in your rehabilitation process How is it so hard to understand that sex and gender are different? Do the work yourself, look it up on the internet We’re not buying TERF delusions We’ll keep fighting for inclusion Do you really think you’ve got the edge on this? Your mind’s as closed as a faux feminist’s You pick and choose what’s convenient to believe in And criticize everyone who dares to think for themselves (How dare you think for yourself?)

Our fear has made us gullible A bully rose to take control And now they’re yelling “off with their heads!” We’ve been through this, we ended it Or so we thought it had been fought It’s like an army back from the dead The racists got a PR firm Hired men in fancy shirts But have the same ideology We’ve had to say a lot of stuff We thought was fucking obvious Like, “Yes, it’s okay to punch Nazis!” Never thought it’d happen But now look where we are We’d rather have a racist Than a woman in power When we got complacent In defending our rights The Nazis changed their name Now they’re called the alt-right Death to white supremacists Like Milo Yiannopoulos Homophobes and hatred they spread Let’s get intersectional Basic human rights for all We won’t stop till fascism’s dead Terrorize the Red Pill plague Poison all the KKK Piss on your ideology We’ve had to say a lot of stuff We thought was fucking obvious Like, “Yes, it’s okay to punch Nazis!” Never thought it’d happen But now look where we are We’d rather have a racist Than a woman in power When we got complacent In defending our rights The Nazis changed their name Now they’re called the alt-right

I don’t give a fuck about my reputation You’re living in the past, it’s a new generation A girl can do what she wants to do And that’s what I’m gonna do And I don’t give a fuck about my bad reputation Oh no, not me Oh no, not me I don’t give a fuck about my reputation Never said I wanted to improve my station And I’m only doing good when I’m having fun And I don’t have to please no one And I don’t give a fuck about my bad reputation ... I don’t give a fuck about my reputation Never been afraid of any deviation And I don’t really care if you think I’m strange I ain’t gonna change And I don’t have a fuck about my bad reputation ...

Relapse 02:09
I tried to be content with an ordinary life But I feel like anything could happen tonight It might have something to do with the bottle of booze That I just KO’d at a quarter to noon Relapse, relapse with me Whiskey is my boyfriend, never cheated on me Relapse, relapse with me The bottle is my best friend and my worst enemy Relapse Tried to break it off with Jimmy Beam But my life became a terrible dream Got really bored and put on a movie Cried ‘cause I’ll never marry Adrien Brody Relapse, relapse with me ... Car ran out of gas Stubbed my big toe Got a cat scratch Fell asleep mid-blow Slave to the system Scarred by sexism Gender pay gap Fuck it, let’s relapse Relapse, relapse with me ...

Thought I’d put the devil to bed Fuck it, fuck it, let’s wake him instead Want you to hear the wolves in my heart Tell 'em where I live so I can tear them apart Tell the wolves I’m home Tell the wolves I’m home We all become ghosts someday While I’m alive I won’t be afraid May the bridges I’ve burned light the way For the person I’ll become Tell the wolves I’m home Tell the wolves I’m home Tell the wolves I’m home Buried what’s behind I’ve burned down, I’ve moved on Tell the wolves I’m home In the dark of the night In the thick of the trees Both of us are there Only one of us leaves

about

You can buy the digital version here. This album is also available on vinyl from the Snappy Little Numbers Quality Audio Recordings website.

“Burn It Down” is the highly anticipated follow-up to Cheap Perfume’s first full-length album, “Nailed It.” “Burn It Down” includes poppy songs bookended by darker, heavier tracks. “Put the Devil to Bed” is a screamy opening song about surviving sex assault. The song has been performed at Cheap Perfume shows for years, but never before recorded. It issues a call to burn down the social institutions and paradigms that enable the repression, objectification and vilification of womxn — and the resulting violence against them. The brand-new song “Time’s Up” sends a clear message to men about whose responsibility it should be to stop rape and sexism: “It’s not on women to avoid the violence of rape culture/It’s up to men to tell their friends that we deserve better than this/No no, not our responsibility.”

In addition to confronting those pressing and serious topics, the album has plenty of Cheap Perfume’s trademark cheeky humor — evident in the catchy pop-punk number “Fauxminism” and a new recording of the anti-fascist anthem “It’s Okay (to Punch Nazis),” which was released as a single in 2017.

Cheap Perfume released "Burn It Down" on Snappy Little Numbers Quality Audio Recordings on Dec. 6, 2019.
